According to our Hindu calendar, the month of Shravan is dedicated  to the powerful Lord Shiva.  This month is considered to be auspicious for seeking Shivji’s blessings. Throughout this month of Sawan 2024, devotees from around the country will observe various fasts to please Neelkantha.

In North Indian states, Shravan month is also referred to as Sawan month. Mondays, known as Somwar(s), falling within Shravan are particularly significant. Devotees keep fast on every Monday and are called Shravan Somwar or Sawan Somwar Vrats. Many devotees undertake the Solah Somwar fasting, observing sixteen Mondays starting from the first Somwar of the Sawan month.

About Sawan Start Date in 2024 – Sawan 2024

Shravan, the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, usually spans July to August in the Gregorian calendar. This year, Sawan, also known as Shravan, will feature five Monday fasts, known as Somwar Vrats. The first Monday fast of Sawan falls on July 22, and the fifth and final Monday fast of Sawan will be observed on August 19.

Shravan Puja Vidhi 2024 – Sawan 2024

During the month of Shravan, especially on Mondays, the ritual of Shiv Puja is widely observed. Here’s a detailed look at how these rituals are performed:

Date of Shravan Month: In 2024, the month of Sawan begins on July 22.

Morning Rituals: One of the first rituals of sawan Shivratri puja vidhi is that people wake up early in the morning and cleanse themselves by taking a bath.

Worship Practices: Devotees either visit the temple or worship Lord Shiva at home. They pray and sing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva.

  – At the temple, people perform Rudrabhishekh, which involves bathing the Shiva Ling with holy water, honey, curd, and milk to please Lord Shiva and seek his blessings.

Shravan Monday Fasting – Sawan 2024

• During Shravan (Shravan Mahina), many people observe Monday fasting (Somwar Vrat) as a ritual to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
• Devotees consume Satvik bhojan, which includes milk, milk products, fruits, and certain vegetables such as Lauki (bottle gourd), Arbi (taro root), sweet potato, and potato.
• It is advised to avoid consuming salt during the fast until the end of the Sawan month.

During the month of Sawan, several festivals and auspicious days hold significant importance for Lord Shiva devotees. Here are the festivals along with their dates in 2024:

• Shravan Shivratri: July 28, 2024 – This festival falls on the 14th day of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the month of Sawan. Devotees observe fasts, perform puja, and seek blessings from Lord Shiva.

• Nag Panchami: August 11, 2024  – Celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Sawan, this festival involves worshiping snakes and seeking protection from snake bites.

• Hariyali Teej: August 19, 2024 – Dedicated to Goddess Parvati, this festival usually occurs during Sawan. Married women fast for the well-being of their husbands and perform rituals.

• Raksha Bandhan: August 19, 2024  – Though not exclusive to Sawan, Raksha Bandhan often coincides with this month. Siblings celebrate their bond by tying rakhi (a protective thread) and exchanging gifts.

• Kajari Teej: August 30, 2024 – Observed on the third day of the dark fortnight, Kajari Teej celebrates the monsoon season. Women sing folk songs and pray for a good harvest.

• Janmashtami: August 26, 2024 – Also known as Krishna Janmashtami, this festival commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna. According to Hindu mythology, Janmashtami falls on the eighth day of the dark half of the Sawan month, marking the descent of Lord Krishna to Earth.
