Sawan Somvar Katha:

The story of Sawan Somvar Vrat (sawan shiv puja katha) goes back to when Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva visited the earth outside Mount Kailash. They found a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva during their journey and decided to take a break there because they were tired. Goddess Parvati suggested playing dice with Lord Shiva, and they played for a long time.

The priest of the temple mistakenly declared Lord Shiva as the winner of the game, but it was actually Goddess Parvati who won. When she heard this, she got very angry and cursed the priest with leprosy. The priest was very sad and wandered around until he met two celestial beings. They advised him to observe the Solah Somvar Vrat, fasting and praying on sixteen consecutive Mondays. The priest followed their advice sincerely, and miraculously, he was cured of his leprosy.

The Priest’s fasting and healing amazed Goddess Parvati so much that she decided to do the same fasting. On the 16th day of fasting, something amazing happened – she reunited miraculously with her son Kartikeya. These special events showed how powerful the fasting was.
